Vintar launches Kayam Kayak adventure and hosts the first kayathlon

Kayam Kayak

Still about Vintar Dam, the launch of Kayam Kayak kayaking adventure is finally happening, like I wrote in the Mabuhay Magazine October 2014 issue. A kickoff kayathlon, the first of its kind in the country, according to organizers, is set on December 27, 6 AM. (For those who are interested to join, the race is tomorrow, folks.)

Vintar Dam, in the old past, was the most visited tourist spot in Ilocos Norte. The town has set its heart to bring back its glory. With the direction towards nature and adventure, development around the Umok ni Siwawer Nature Park has started. To date, identical picnic huts to enjoy the calming view of the Bislak River have been built. Even the adjacent Governor’s Resthouse (established during the time of  the late former governor Elizabeth Marcos Keon) was renovated not too long ago.

Siwawer Vintar 4×4 Challenge on its 10th Year

766 photos in a day! I’m more exhausted than any of the off-road competitors. Posting some photos before I finish the hard action for the next post. I hope you are enjoying the last days of 2013, everyone!

Meet the man to beat… Boyet Leano, the non off-roader who happens to be the godfather of 4×4 races in the entire Ilocandia, years before off-road competitions became mainstream in Ilocos Norte.

This year, riders from Pampanga joined the Vintar races.

Last Days of 2012

The world survived the Mayan calendar — what 2012 was to all of us. An awesome year!

My boy Brandon grabbed a double victory in Vintar’s 9th Siwawer Off-Road Challenge. At 14, the youngest challenger won the modified/tube buggy category besting 13 contenders and sealed a double victory in the reverse track shootout.
