In this post, I will be sharing with you tips on achieving your favorite celebrity looks. It’s possible. promise! My grown out bang is the perfect length to enhance the eyes.

Get the look:

If you’re a faux lashes virgin, you can start by purchasing cheaper falsies available at beauty stores. There are so many types to choose from actually. My crisscross lashes (in a box of 10 pairs) are from the MakeUp Designory class. Application steps will follow next.

Precise makeup tools are necessary to achieve seamless application. My most important tools are the angled brow brush, the large eye shader, the bullet blending brush, the angled contour brush and a stippling brush or a beauty blender. Next, put on a good primer and your basic makeup. If you are going to face the cameras then you will have to apply everything two times heavier, believe me!  To add depth and dimension, don’t skip contouring! You will need it on the sides of the nose, near the ears and the jawline. You don’t want a flat face in photos! Match your brows with the falsies! Stick to neutral colors for the eyes and line only the upper lash line with black kohl or gel product. Leave the inner corners of the eyes bare and put whitish color on the V’s to make eyes appear bright. From the NYX Make-up Artist Kit, I blended pewter and shimmery taupes and used the darkest brown with gold dust on the outer corners. The face colors were so useful, basically everything in just one kit. Now, the mascara — use it on lower lashes and to blend in the falsies and cover excess glue.

For the cheeks, work in blush from the apples to the ears. You can’t go wrong with warm bisque for fairer skin and peach or raisin for darker skin tone.

The lipstick choice depends on you. Generally, I like the shade not too far from the dress color, like I chose a deeper orange red for my monochromatic orange dress to let my face show.

Lastly, set the make-up with mattifying loose powder. Ben Nye luxury powder works wonder on my oily skin. Buff everything with a blending brush or a BeautyBlender sponge. The BeautyBlender, I discovered in makeup class. It works like an airbrush actually, minimizing visible pores.

All in all, it took me 15 minutes to get the look.

  • Apply glue to lash band and wait til half dry, about 30 seconds.
  • Position eyelash to the lid and press unto the natural lash line, starting from the inner corner.
  • While glue is not fully dry, check eyes in the mirror — the correct placement: lashes should curl up.

Don’t leave home without the Sunscreen

Summer is beaching time! An important reminder before heading outdoors, slather on sunscreen with high UVB/UVA protection. Avoid frying in the sun, buy a shield with broad spectrum SPF, preferably SPF 70-100. Water-resistant sunblock with SPF 100, like the shine-free Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock Lotion SPF 100, provides 99 percent protection from the toxic effects of solar radiation.

Choose oil- and PABA-free products to prevent pore clogging that may trigger acne symptoms. For the more sensitive facial skin, good sunblocks, such as Obagi and Avène High Protection, are available at reputable dermatologic clinics. A low SPF 15 is enough for daily use, though.

Among the best budget-friendly to high-end sun product brands that I’ve tried and tested are Neutrogena, Nivea, Aveeno, Clarins, Mustela, Peter Thomas Roth, Galderma Helioblock and Avène. I spray on Babaria bronceador when I want to tan while being protected. Always apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going out in the sun. Reapply every 2-3 hours if you sweat excessively or you’re hitting the water.

Don’t forget to guard your lips, use tinted lipbalm with Sun Protection Factor.

After long hours under the sun, the skin deserves pampering with soothening after sun products. Nivea, Hawaiian Tropic, L’Occitane and Clarins offer excellent after sun care with nourishing natural ingredients, such as aloe vera and verbena.

Last tip, eat food rich in Vitamins A, C and E to keep skin protected in and out of the sun.

October Moon: Stargazing in Subic

What’s in the deafening night sky?

Stargazing is for the amateur astronomer, anyone who wants to discover the planet, stars and galaxies. For a closer view of the celestial bodies, you will be needing a telescope or a spotting scope which may cost you an arm and a leg; prices range from 15K-1M pesos. The telescope can double as a birding scope. Or a stalking gadget, perhaps, for someone with bats in the belfry.

A star map and a red reading light are among  the  important equipment in astronomy.

Enthusiasts from the Astrobirders of Quezon City, also members of the Astronomical League of the Philippines, came over to Subic to lend their expertise for the nocturnal activity of the ecoguiding program of the International School of Sustainable Tourism (ISST).

We also viewed the sun which is the brightest star of all. I peered through the scope, and I saw 3 dots, which are said to be the much cooler parts of the sun. Filters and protective eye gadgets are a must when viewing or photographing celestial objects.

They say the best time to observe the moon is from first quarter to half moon.
