Mother’s Day Lunch

Touches of Terracotta

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there!

Mother’s Day lunch was with my eating buddies at Alain and Marianne’s place. We pooled ourselves together for a devil-may-care spread. There was lamb, ribeye, T-bone, Aristocrat-style chicken, braised glass noodles, poached shrimps, almond jelly with lychees, sweetened bananas with milk, pandan salad and coffee mangosteen ice cream. My guest, Sir Robbie Cereno of the UP Los Baños College of Forestry and Natural Resources, might have expected to see again pinakbet, bagnet, dinengdeng and longaniza which he has encountered a lot during his 5-day stay in Ilocos.

My mother’s changing hair through the years

Something for my mom on Mother’s Day, the evolution of her hair.

With it goes my love and admiration for her strength through the trials that come her way. About three years ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The last time she came home to visit, she looked fine. More gray streaks, but still the same hip mom. She gave me and the girls gorgeous purses from Nordstrom.

I think I got my mom’s penchant for styling hair. She did my apple cut before I started experimenting with her tools. Perms, wigs, faux ponytail, Halle Berry’s, name it, she’s done everything imaginable with her hair. Oh, except for the Bo Derek cornrows:)
