Who would think that there’s this über-hip shop in this rather prosaic and monotonous neighborhood in Laoag? Word-of-mouth has proven itself time and again to be an effective marketing tool. It was Eugene who mentioned to me about McShine Art and Custom Shop.
The young owner of the shop was literally padlocking the roll-up door when I arrived. It was unannounced, so I cajoled him saying that it’s gonna be quick, with just a couple of shots and questions.
The murals tell much about Emjay’s art While it’s young, funky, inventive and outside the box, it’s also clever and clean, as in wholesome. No ghoulish characters of any sort. McShine is a joint venture with his sister Mave. Two other artists, Adonis and Cherilyn, are contributing artists. Emjay is a graduate of the Ilocos Norte National High School-Special Program in The Arts (INNHS-SPA) and the International School of the Arts, Languages and Academe (ISALA), where he took a Fine Arts course. Their supportive parents partly financed the initial capital investment. Now that they are on their own, the young entrepreneurs dream big. At the helm of McShine, Emjay reveals that German artist Bobsmade inspired him to open the shop. It’s good to know that Showtime’s Teddy Corpuz is an endorser of the relatively new McShine. If your style is unique and utterly fun, you have to check out McShine. Prices are within reach. One-of-a-kind Wayfarer-style sunglasses are only 350 pesos.
