Laoag’s Urban Horses Go Country

Kwentong Kuchero

The weekend scene along Ventura Highway in Talingaan-La Paz shifts gears with the inspired idea of setting up an outpost for the KKK. The what? Hello rustic! Kabalyo, kalesa ken kuchero of the Laoag City Calesa Association, led by Roel Respicio, offer a new one with nature kind of trip at the famed sand dunes of La Paz.

The Laoag Eco-Adventure Development or LEAD Movement, through President Reny Tan, are helping out promote the new adventure in Sunshine City Laoag to sustain Ilocano culture and tradition and augment livelihood of the tireless kucheros.

Ericke, her best friend Ivon Domingo (a LEAD Movement honorary baby) and I road tested first the horsey fun:) Check out Ivon’s gorgeous photos in her blog.

The Poetry of Palpalokada

The horsey set

LEAD Movement found time to go to Burgos to experience horseback riding in a place local vaqueros call Palpalokada. Other townsfolk call the rustic locale Bantoc, but I like the 5-syllable Palpalokada better — the sound fits the enchanting outback totally.

Remember that spelunking exploration I posted in November? I just discovered another delicious component of the whole enchilada.

Everything is photo-worthy, from the rock’s surface to the entangled thorny vines to the bewitched expression on the faces of Marc and Sean.
