A Blast from the Past

Reunion with friends in Glendora

Holy Spirit Academy of Laoag, batch ni Mercy Lazo ken Pinky Valenciano (hahah!) — about as standard as you get. It’s amazing how the FF (don’t ask me what it means ‘coz I resigned as a member of that potent society at some point) has moved headquarters to USA. Odette Guerrero, Peggy Valdez and Ruby Recta and I made it a point to be with each other in Pinky’s home in Glendora on Saturday. In preference to going into the new, we harked back to the days of yore. Pinky brought out all her vintage photo albums lovingly compiled by her lola.

It was inspiring to see Pinky and her bunch of DIY beanies for cancer patients. She’s turned into a successful businesswoman, and Odette too. Peggy and Ruby are among the many nurses from the batch. I still have to figure out what to pursue after being a full-time blogger for half a decade.

Pinky prepared a burrito, pozole and ceviche dinner. The cupcakes ordered from Georgetown Cupcake and Odette’s strawberry donuts from Glendora’s famous donut stand were too delicious to pass up.

Fun til midnight. Indeed, home is in the heart.

Pinky posted on our FB group page, “Don’t forget Ruby’s Sangria mix and Peggy’s wine which by the way we continue to enjoy at night….. I must say I was a bit intimidated by the thought of what dinner to prepare since you are indeed a genuine “foodie” expert. We might have added years to life, but, oh, how I realized that we are pretty much how we were in high school…….full of life, contented, confident and, oh, yes loud! Thanks much for making our ‘blast from the past’ mini reunion possible.”

With much thanks also to Rommel, John and Benjie!

Surprise… High School Reunion!

Omigosh, I shouldn’t be posting these photos, but what the heck? Anyway, this batch is from the Holy Spirit Academy of Laoag. Year? The year I got married. So I didn’t graduate from HSAL. I had to transfer to another school in Manila because I got kicked out for eloping when I was in third year high. That info sort-of explains why I have adult children☺

Alma (far right in photo) visited Laoag for the first time since graduation.  The Laoag-based former classmates organized this little reunion for her. It was so much fun getting to see each other again. They all looked the same as the last time we were together. With a few added pounds and some wrinkles, but basically the same friends I’ve known and grew up with. We talked about our family life, careers, LOL, our adventures in elementary and high school and the nuns and teachers who we loved and also “hated”.

We missed our other old classmates, though. Most of them are living in other places now.

No big Romy and Michele high school reunion. The potlock party was relaxed… we had great food and a lot of karaoke singing. And endless photo ops, gosh, for their FB accounts.

Now, I’m loving reunions. I wish for a bigger one. I mean, more from this batch.
