New place to stay in Tuguegarao: Mango Suites

After an extra-tiring-but-fruitful day at the Department of Foreign Affairs Office in Tuguegarao, all we wanted was a great early dinner in a cool spot. Phoned Maila, our friend, for help. She suggested two new places. Reny settled for Swanny’s Kitchen at Red Diwa’s, another friend’s, new hotel, described as the only boutique hotel in Tuguegarao City.

It was supereasy to find the new address– the building spells C-O-O-L.

The hotel is only 4 months old. As usual, I proceeded to check out the rooms. The rooms smelled fresh, the comfy beds were enticing… we wanted to spend a night, but then we needed to go back to Ilocos as soon we had our dinner. Life is unfair!

Architect Red Diwa is getting to know the biz too well. After establishing Mango Drive, here’s another fine place to stay when in Tuguegarao.

Room prices are friendly. Nothing over 2,800.

Breakfast at Hotel Tiffany

Art Deco lounge

Hotel Tiffany is the first and only boutique hotel in the entire Ilocos region. Art Deco in architecture, with vibrant and playful colors, the hotel readily attracts notice. It is located in the central business district of Laoag. Hotel Tiff’s 24 well-kept rooms are fitted with air-conditioning, a telephone, Wi-Fi Internet, cable TV and hot/cold shower. Prices range from PHP630 – 1360. Parking space is ample and brownouts are never a  problem.

On the bottom floor is Macy’s Diner, a Hollywood themed restaurant with an eclectic cuisine composed of a variety of Ilocano and international favorites. The dizzying array of choices includes pinakbet, sisig, machang, beef wanton noodles, cua pao, pomelo salad, korean beef stew, crispy hipon, ribbon prawns, porterhouse steak, duck soup,  homemede Japanese green tea ice cream and fried ice cream, just to name a few. Their new Pinoy Pizza, a combination of popular Pinoy breakfast viands — longganisa, tapa tocino and egg — over pizza dough, is a current bestseller. Meals can be served in the privacy of your rooms.
