An exotic evening capped a busy Sunday. On a whim, the hubby and I hit the road to Marcos to see what Al Nada Resort has to offer. My friend Mike Kairuz was inviting me some months back. Unexpectedly, the owner turns out to be Alli Alahmed, an expat, who we met at my uncle’s house in the next town (Banna) from way back. I never thought of the connection. Anyhow, just when we were about to leave, Alli offered dinner. We just had dinner at home, but we joined him at the bar, anyway. He talked about how he transformed his home made of cargo containers into what it is this time, a resort with camping grounds and a function hall overlooking verdant environs. He thinks of building a swimming pool eventually.
My eye caught an unfamiliar object by the kitchen countertop. It’s a waterpipe (hookah) for smoking shisha. The tobacco that is used looks and smells like jam and comes in different flavors like apple, mint, cappuccino, etc.. I’ve passed by hookah bars along Melrose Ave. before, but I never had the chance to peek. Out of curiosity and for reportage, I puffed once. Strangely, it was tasteless as in no trace of tobacco. Note: It’s not something that I encourage you to do on a regular basis.
We were served aromatic capsa chicken, which looked a little bit like Spanish paella and Chinese kiam peng. The cook says, it’s Arabic spices that give the dish character. Chewy dates and green mint tea completed the wonderful Middle Eastern meal.
I hope to be able to go back during the day and perhaps have some shish kebob.
