As far as I can recall, the Good Shepherd nuns in Baguio have been spawning jams, chutneys, cookies, nut brittle, pickles, chocolate goodies, and so on, to send Cordilleran youths to college and we’re helping them achieve the mission by buying from them. Sweeter when shared — that’s guilt-free spending.
Alfajor caramel sandwiches are my favorite next to chocolate crinkles that are pretty thin in a good, good way — so addictive! Another favorite is mango chutney which was out of sight when we went, probably because local mangoes are out of season.
Other than making quality foodstuff from the Cordilleras’ finest produce, the nuns share their know-how at the Mountain Maid Training Center within the Good Shepherd Compound, and thus help countless families start up a pasalubong business. So much an inspiring story of an altruism-driven existence.
