Coma one: After checking out two big grocery stores in Laoag and not finding basic caramel syrup or sauce, I got too excited finding a caramel-colored bottle, with the word caramel, at the bigger store. When I arrived, Brandon was asking me what I was about to whip up. I answered, “Salted caramel coffee.” “This just won’t work,” he warned me. I went on brewing barako coffee. Pumped out a beautiful swirl of whipped cream, laced it with Goya cocoa powder… and… jeez, why is this caramel not caramel!? Mental failure leads to epic failure.
In the collage (clockwise): bulalo (bone marrow) soup, pinaputok na tilapia, lengua in white sauce, grilled okra with BLT, mango and blueberry cheesecakes, grilled steaks.
Coma two: We had dinner with the Kaus at their home just a while back. Joan grilled steaks and okras, and made tender lengua (beef tongue) in rich white sauce and bulalo soup. Cheesecake and chamomile tea followed. I’m in food coma. Goodnight.
