Rock my world

Earth's SurfaceThe anthracite-colored formations of Pagali.

There is more life in rustic localities than in the city.

In Burgos, where I ushered the TV Patrol Ilocos crew, we saw rocks of different types —  a showcase of the earth’s surface. We went to Palpalokada and it gave me a feeling of Utah or Arizona. We also visited the salt makers in Pagali and the surroundings were surreal… kinda Hawaii… I was thinking where might have all the black formations come from? A bit eerie, a sleeping volcano must be somewhere, but then it probably was part of the ocean’s floor. We also did a bit of spelunking in the newly discovered Aba-Aba Cave. From where we parked, the same parking area near the Tanap barangay hall, it took us only a 10-minute hike and violá, a beautifully decorated cavern was waiting for the ohs and ahs!  We commonly see rocks and stones as dull or dormant… we treat them pretty unfairly, but it must be in these creations that we can understand our roots… if only we open our eyes to the stories these rocks and stones are hinting at.

I’m not quite sure if they’re gecko eggs.

We had bibingka (sticky rice cake laced with cheese and coconut) and coffee to warm us after a brief encounter with wild winds in Palpalokada.

More on the salt making community of Pagali up next.

I’m on my way to another adventure in Burgos. She rocks!
