Just arrived from a quick trip to Manila. On my first day, I went to Assad Mini Mart, a Pakistani and Filipino-owned grocery that sells Indian goodies along United Nations Avenue. Their samosa (spicy potato, pea and onion triangular pastry) and barfi (different varieties of milk confections ranging from plain to walnut, pistachio or dried fruit filled) are delish. I went home with festive Hindustani gulab jamun, fried milk balls soaked in heavy rosewater syrup with a tinge of cardamom — so good, a perfect dessert after the Chinese takeout food from Four Seasons I’m going to blog about next.
