S.O.U.L. Café: Reason to Eat

Wayside S.O.U.L. Café is a convenient layover with good food between Manila and Laoag. It’s in Rosario, La Union, near the Rosario-Kennon Road junction. SOUL stands for Spice of Urban Life. Established by Baguio residents Dangal and Susan Guevara a few years ago, the warm and homey café features a varied menu. They have excellent gourmet coffee selections along with breakfast food, sandwiches, pastas and desserts. According to the friendly waitress, grilled dishes are hot sellers. A steak is served with a designer soup, rice or mashed potatoes and a vegetable side dish.

I requested for green eggs, a breakfast meal that I’ve tried on my last visit but failed to photograph. The green color is actually from pesto. The eggs are good. I just wish they serve the ketchup separately . I remember swapping the ham for longaniza before.

Brandon’s grilled lamb chops with mashed potatoes and sautéed mushroom and spinach. We all had the same hearty pumpkin soup.

Geez, he wouldn’t chill for a moment! Sorry if I couldn’t take a more decent shot of his tempting Fire on Ice, ice cream in hot espresso.

Ericke had a grilled rib eye steak followed by a strawberry crepe.

They have this Coffee Alamid that is priced at 350 pesos per cup. The coffee is from civet droppings. (Read more about Coffee Alamid here.) I prefer tea to coffee, however. Other than that, the items on the menu are priced reasonably.
