It’s been raining like crazy, but I’ve got sunshine!
I stopped by La Preciosa to pick up a carrot cake, Pamela Aragoza’s signature cake. Pamela is the lady behind the tourist-friendly La Preciosa, a fine dining restaurant that traces its roots to the pretty rad Peppermint Kitchenette established by her late mom, Preciosa “Precing” Palma, a couple of decades ago. Although Pamela has inherited her mom’s fascination for cooking, having seen how La Preciosa has grown over the years, I know for a fact that there are no shortcuts for the restaurateur. She takes pride in the variety of menu options including the most sought-after Ilocano dishes, contemporary pastas, cakes and coffee concoctions; and the quality of service — all the right ingredients for a remarkable Ilocos dining experience.
For now, let me talk about Pam’s cakes. She has perfected her moist and nutty carrot cake, which isn’t too dense. The carrots for the topping are obviously freshly grated. The yummy buttercream frosting has the right texture and thickness, so that having a slice is pleasurable. In fact, it’s been getting rave reviews from foodies, who’ve been to Ilocos.Another family favorite is Pam’s tiramisu with crunchy old-fashioned broas. La Pre (a sobriquet given by locals to La Preciosa) never fails us when sugar cravings strike late at night. By now, you’d be able to guess Alexa’s pick. Forever the chocoholic, she gets her own slice of chocolate fudge cake.
