An apple, a sandwich and Krispy Kreme glazed donuts since 4:00 AM — not enough to make two Pinays last til mid-afternoon. Lee and I made a deal on piping hot noodle soup, but we were too early for the evening store hours of the Zao Vietnanese Bistro in Serendra. Set on having hot pho, we decided to take a taxi to Greenbelt, where I knew there was a Pho Hoa, a global chain restaurant specializing in Vietnamese cuisine. I got a bowl of pho bo kho, beef stew with noodles, and a cup of Vietnamese fried rice in place of the unavailable shrimp paste rice I wanted. Lee had chua cay, a hot and sour pho with prawns and pineapple. Wish granted.
It’s not that I was too famished, my pho bo kho was really good that I almost had a repeat order. I added a squeeze of lemon, a couple of basil leaves and all of the bean sprouts to the already flavorful beef stew. Oh, it was soothing! Lee also seemed satisfied with her pho. Prices are reasonable. The place was getting packed as we left.
