Ilocano Innovation: Bungro “Therapeutic” Ice Cream

You wouldn’t believe it, but there is such a thing as therapeutic ice cream… and only in Ilocos Sur. Bungro Ice Cream originated from Barangay Bungro, San Ildefonso, Ilocos Sur. Made from local produce and Splenda no calorie sweetener, flavors include marunggay (moringa), karabasa (squash), ginger-honey, pinipig, red bell pepper, roasted garlic, apple guava, papaya-calamansi, ampalaya (bitter melon),  monggo, cheese, peanut butter, kapeng matapang ken balicocha; and seasonal flavors  such as green mango,  mango, kaimito (star apple), melon, sampaloc (tamarind), chico, langka (jack fruit), guayabano and pinia (pineapple).

With Bungro ice cream carts going around town, diabetics, hypertensives and health-conscious people can still have their ice cream. At first, I thought the tarpaulin banner was just a joke. It really does attract curiosity.
