“Its not so much of a jungle like everyone thinks”, Ericke Tan says about Laoag and the latest buzz in town.
Mary Ann Cua Macaraeg sent out invites to the grand opening of her newest baby, Emerald Design Showroom. Me-Ann, an Industrial Engineering graduate of De La Salle University, is also the proud owner of the highly successful Red Dot boutique and the year-old Mark and Marty in Laoag. I asked her what makes Emerald special. She says, “While Red Dot specializes in mainstream domestic and international labels like Havaianas, Schu, Plains and Prints, among others — and Mark and Marty caters to the juvenile and young at heart with the latest in Bayo, Crocs, Ginger Snaps, Space, and other trendy labels — Emerald is a lifestyle store for the discriminating taste, a ‘design hub’‘; and I intend to highlight a designer every two months.” The labels on display are: Red Dot (the dresses are priced affordably at P1195-1350-); Salabianca, a Malaysian label that specializes in day to evening ultra modern embellished Southeast Asian-inspired clothing; up to date Charles and Keith shoes; the globally-recognized Aranaz bags that are made of Philippine indigenous materials; jeans by American Eagle, Gap and Banana Republic; and D’ Luxe by Rodina Velasco, an upcoming jewelry designer who focuses on healing stones and crystals (bliss for those who want to cleanse their chakras, enhance their auras, and look chic, as well). Her other well thought of Red Dot items are clutches, purses, belts and original scents. Me-an says she will be adding home accessories in the near future. Emerald also accepts Made-To-Measure clothing and bags. And, oh, customized swim wear by Risque.
The pretty and smart young entrepeneur stressed that Emerald’s clothes carry elegance with a modern edge and flawless quality. The 20 sq m showroom is conveniently located at the second floor of Cristina II Bldg. along Gen Luna St. in the heart of downtown Laoag.
Why the name Emerald? “Because it’s my birthstone”, she happily says. It reminded me it’s her birthday tomorrow. Well, Me-Ann, Happy Birthday!! Wishing you many more years on continued success.
